As civil unrest spread across Egypt, updates, videos, and statistics were streamed in real time by American University of Cairo student Gigi Ibrahim. While media outlets and internet were shut down by the Egyptian government, Gigi's posts to twitter and facebook became some of the only primary news resources informing the country and the world. Her advocacy for citizen journalism united people who wished to see change for the better in their homeland and she became an iconic face for the revolution.
