Evergreen Visual History Archive

Tacoma Campus faculty and students in 1983.

The Evergreen Visual History Archive (EVHA) project is an initiative to develop an online archive of visual materials from the college's history. This excerpt from the original grant proposal captures the spirit of the project:

"We hope with this project to begin something that provides us a new and vitally current way to tell our story well. The institutes, and the work that follows, will bring together faculty at all stages of Evergreen career development – new and nearly new, mid-tenure, and newly and nearly newly retired – for collaboration and fellowship in the initiation of a broad memory project that will long outlast the term of this grant. ... Our hope is to create lasting friendships among young and old faculty, and to create opportunities for stories of Evergreen’s present, future, and past to take shape in quiet conversations and shared projects. We believe that building such collegial relationships, in context of meaningful work, will enrich the intellectual life and pedagogy of the college in ways that may be difficult to gauge but impossible to deny. This project has the potential to reinvigorate our faculty and staff, to revalidate our mission and core values, and to use new technologies alongside old and new friends to edify our mission and sense of self. We don’t wish to etch the “Evergreen way” in stone so much as to capture it in amber." - From Fund for Innovation Grant Proposal, Spring 2008.
