Clean Energy Panel Discussion

The Center for Sustainable Entrepreneurship will host a clean energy panel discussion. The panelists will be energy efficiency representatives from Bonneville Power Administration, Puget Sound Energy, and Energy Efficiency Finance Corporation. Below are their names and bios. The panel will be moderated but the audience is encouraged to ask questions too. Help us come to conclusions about the future of clean energy in an uncertain economy.

Clean Energy Panelists:

Melissa Podeszwa is an Energy Efficiency Representative for Bonneville Power Administration. She works with large Puget Sound Area utilities on their energy efficiency and conservation programs. Melissa started her work in Energy Efficiency in 2001 at the former DOE Seattle Regional Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. She has also worked for the State of Washington in Low-Income Weatherization and US Dept of HUD in Tribal Programs. Melissa has a passion for bringing energy efficiency to those who can benefit most from its implementation, particularly low-income housing, tribes and public entities such as schools and local governments.

John MacLean is an investment banker with a background in municipal finance and energy project finance. He has 26 years commercial finance experience with a wide range of investment structures, mainly for senior debt, and also for municipal bond, leasing, factoring, subordinated debt, guarantees, project equity and corporate equity transactions and has worked on financing EE projects and companies throughout his career. For the last twelve years, he has worked internationally as a financial advisor with the International Finance Corp., World Bank, Asian Development Bank, UNEP, UNDP and others to develop, structure and implement EE and RE investments and finance programs. He graduated from Yale University in 1980 in economics and teaches sustainable economics at The Evergreen State College.

Thomas MacLean serves as the Manager of Customer Renewable Energy Programs, within the Energy Efficiency Services division at Puget Sound Energy. The programs under Tom’s management include: The Green Power Program for customers who want to purchase additional renewable energy; The Net Metering and Production Metering programs for customers who produce renewable energy which is net metered and receives a state supported production payment; The Customers Renewables Program which promotes the use of small scale renewable energy resources; Information Services which participates in over 200 events each year to promote energy efficiency services; and Green Communities, which is a new service channel that partners with individual communities to increase energy efficiency. Tom’s work also includes assisting customer-generators with their plans, and providing input to the policy teams regarding various proposals. Tom has represented the company on resource planning issues at the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission, the Northwest Power and Conservation Council, the National Association of Regulatory Commissions, and with policy makers in Washington, D.C. and Olympia.
