The National Coalition for Dialogue and Deliberation (NCDD) sees deliberation as a process that can "resolve conflicts, bridge divides and build understanding about complex issues. Moreover, NCDD believes meaning dialogue as a precursor to more structured deliberation can help facilitate the "trust, mutual understanding and relationships" needed to engage lively topics with a critical eye, tempered by an increased awareness and understanding of participants personal stories. Personal stories that are "in relation to the issue at hand" can speak to audiences in the absence of significant shared understanding. It is this brief background that frames the issue and can bring meaning insight and a human component that is all too often missing in todays modern digital environment.
