Are we not a part of Nature? Our walls we build only separate us by a thin membrane, but they are still permeable to the overwhelmingly enormous influence of the surrounding wilderness. The globe is an organism. Like the tiny cells in our body, we are subunits of the whole earth. She is living, she is breathing. Feel her, know her, love her.

If we are to give ourselves basic rights to which all are privied, then we should also extend them to nature. After all, nature is an extension of ourselves. I'm not here to make that argument. I hold these truths to be self evident. And so do the Bolivians apparently. This summer will see the passing of the 'Ley de Derechos de La Madre Tierra', or 'Law of Mother Nature', giving the biosphere 11 official rights, ones I wouldn't mind having myself. Viva la Revolucion!
