In winter of 2012 I analyzed the transformation of Cuba's national food and agricultural system after the fall of the Socialist Bloc, from whom they received heavily subsidized imported food and agricultural inputs such as oil, fertilizers, pesticides, and replacement parts for farming equipment.

After the collapse Cuba faced a massive economic crisis and food shortage, and had to take drastic steps to create a more sustainable and independent system. Cuba is one of the best examples of a sustainably developing country that exists.

Here is my case study, hopefully it will inspire some thoughts and ideas for future research in this area.
